..meditation? Yes, that’s totally what I thought. ahem.
This page took a fair bit of work and gave me no little concern about its possible quality until it was done as it revolves almost entirely around NPCs (Non-Poseable Characters in this context. Funny how the acronym works out great for it). So not only does the characters mostly responsible for all interaction in the page suffer from highly limited poses and facial expressions, they also had to all but carry an unconcious Hani along – and sell the impression that they were through almost Hani’s pose alone. In the end though, I’d say it turned out rather well in spite of obstacles.
Characterizing Twilight Lord Kelris on the other hand was fun – taking his one line in game entirely out of context and then building a loud and sarcastic behaviour on top of it. The wisdom of leaving Hani unguarded and within reach of her sword is debatable, but the Twilight’s Hammer isn’t exactly known for their stunning genious.

As ever, glad people apprechiate it :>
Third last.. that’d be bottom left pane – the thing in roughly the center? That’s actually Tiny’s hair struck by some.. apparently really strange lighting conditions as she’s climbing out of Hani’s backpack (explaining where she hid!). I’m not sure what caused it to highlight in that way, she must’ve just hit a perfect angle for it with one of the lightsources or somesuch.
while at it? hmmmm =p slightly suggestive to the pervert minds ;D but again, great strip as always ;D
*cough* Not quite the interpretation intended or expected! And I thought I had well in hand which kind of potential hints and whatnot to all sorts of subtle concepts I left to find. :o
I love Beyond the Tree, T sounds abit like my sis but Im not to judge, anyways when i saw the title i thought immediately of meditation *cough* not *cough*.
I really like the bottom middle panel, you have really made it look cool with those shadows on Hani’ face.
“Beyond the Tree” was choosen kindof at random – I needed a name that was fairly simple and easy to remember, had some kind of ring to it and was still free as a name to choose to put things on. Misadventures (the original title wasn’t available, but Beyond the Tree was. I pretend the name is symbolic. Makes me seem wittier. ;)
As for lighting, it’s very much a hit or miss thing – I tend to use four spotlight light sources spread out across a scene with various colours and light and shadow intensity so there’s no one single obvious lightsource, making the renders fit into most backgrounds regardless of where the lights in them are placed. Every so often I’ll add a small spotlight or omnilight to highlight a face or whatnot that’s too dark (think I did that in that very pane actually..)
But well, sometimes it’s just lucky ;)
I wuv wuu! <3
