So, first about thursday’s missing update – I was suffering from significant lack of ability to concentrate: travelled by air for the first time ever on friday, so in spite of logic I was somewhat unnerved. Hoping to get some model tweaking done over the holidays instead.
For reasons I’m not entirely sure of, the renders actually ended up a tad brighter than I expected – it might simply be my having a much greater habit with the Scanline renderer than Mental Ray, or just messing with a light somewhere. Either way, due to that I took the opportunity to play around with different ways of doing post-render layers so the bloom effect is a tad different. Do chime in whether it’s an improvement or not.
Additionally, Hani’s ended up getting some minor (well..) tweaks to her model and skeleton both – it’s necessitated remaking all her morph targets so her facial expressions might end up looking a bit different, but it shouldn’t be a large change. I doubt you can spot all the changes as some are simply just to maintain integrity, but there’s atleast one change that should be recognizable ;)

Nice new chesty-belt? :D
Well, I did say I had plans for it :>
it fits :). that belt i mean.
The lighting looks like the sun’s shining above the tree canopy and where they’re walking is a bit thin on leaves. It’s pretty, I like it.
I’ve been meaning to ask – Tiny’s hands seem quite big in relation to the rest of her, is that intentional?
Nightelves are like that. Most of the character models in WoW have big hands, but NE females seem to have slightly more disproportionately larger hands. I think it’s because of the more warrior nature of NE females in their culture, and their taller more slender frames accentuates it more over, say, orc females.
It’s a trait of the standard Night Elven model, yes – it might be a bit more apparent here due to some tweaks I’ve done to the hands to keep them looking atleast decent when moving the fingers about and making fists and soforth. Main reason it’s most apparent on Tiny might simply be because we see her hands more, and she facepalms every so often which shows the hands in comparisson with her face.
It’s a fair point though. I might (or might not) take a look over whether it’s worth to try to shrink the hands of the more.. well.. delicate characters, such as Tiny and Te’len. Not decided, though.
Love the new look, nothing to big so something thats easy to addapt into the whole thing ^^
Also for the story, im looking forward to that talk the two are going to have.. The interaction between the mains & crew is something that makes this comic so good. You can allmost feel the emotions of each word… AND i would go on and on about this if i didnt shush myself, so ill say YAYS for the page and all it brings :)
Oh, and Merry Christmas one and all :)
*pokes at shadows* Might be a bit too defined in panel 4. :o
Anyway, three cheers for BtT!
And Happy Holidays to all. ^^
The shadows are hard to get around, unfortunately – there’s only one shadow type available to me (that I know) that fully respects faces with a mask map and that’s Ray Traced Shadows – which creates very clear-cut and sharply defined shadows. It’s possible I might be able to get around that now when I’ve gone from the Scanline renderer to Mental Ray, but I actually don’t know if there’s a solution for it.
