#121 – “Inntroductions”

If anything, this page demonstrates the problems with having Areen around – getting the shot angles showing everything I needed while still being somewhat varied and interesting was alot more work than I expected, and there was actually some non-essential dialogue I ended up having to cut because I couldn’t fit everyone in properly. Hopefully, some practice with having her around will make it less an inconvenience with a greater feel for how dialogue has to be seperated and how she fits into frame.

Areen on top of Hani’s shoulders and Rei on top of Areen’s shoulders! Now that’s something I would love to see! :D

Rei doesn’t seem to dislike Areen :o

  4. June 28, 2009 at 6:27 pm

Well, Rei’s dislike of Delgren is based almost exclusively on his failure to prevent Te’len, her childhood friend, from being abducted by the Twilight Hammer. Areen didn’t fail in this, so Rei has no pre-existing bone to pick with her.

For me, I think it’s a rather interesting aspect of Tiny, really – it makes her interesting to write. To her, it didn’t matter that Maestra’s Post was only barely left standing. It didn’t matter that the fires hadn’t even been put out yet. It didn’t matter how Delgren had somehow managed to hold things together to a point where even the local Sentinels and the nearby followers of Aessina all accepted his leadership for the duration.

All that mattered was that he was the unlucky bastard that told her her childhood friend was abducted, and that no one was getting busy saving her.

Not sure if it’s a typo

‘appart’ in the comic, bottom left frame spoken by Hani.

That’s not a typo so much as one of those words that I consistently spell wrong. *cough*

Also it’s Tiny saying it, not Hani.

      It’s a habit thing, so I’d sooner need an english language respec D;
5/5 Improved Incorrectly Spelled Words was a poor choice, in retrospect.

Lol, “Without batteries, for one thing” made me laugh so hard. I’m taking a wild guess you’ve read the dialogue of that gnome in the druid post of Blades Edge Mountain.

If you haven’t he essentially says “These druids are amazing! They can change form into animals and harness lightning! I wonder how they do it, maybe they hide batteries under those robes.” just in more words.

That dialogue actually provided much of the basis for the character concept that in time would grow and evolve into what is now Paladin Areen Lightspark. Her original incarnation however was more a researcher who had her own thesis seperate from the battery one; as time passed and she had more and more exposure to the Holy Light (and was even granted an audience with a perplexed but well-meaning and helpful Paladin) the concept slowly evolved into that of a gnome with a genuine, though perhaps slightly unusual, belief in the Holy Light.

Areen’s comment made me laugh, I do like a bit of sarcastic humor! Keep up the good work Nhani, loving your comics!

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but i really don’t get the Battery comment, something i missed in wow?

btw, an idea i just thought of that would be nice for Areen in the future, that she, as a gnome, would employ techmods for her weapon! would be funny to see how she uses that Holy water weapon techmod(or whatever its called) would make a funny page at least!
Besides, there’s nothing wrong even for a paladin in employing technology to beat enemies! even more since she’s a gnome.

Oh, and about the Varian Discussion in the last page, since i have’t read the whole wowcomic yet, i don’t know what coused the hatred, but then again, war can couse much grief, just look at the real world.

Like Arafor mentioned, the battery comment is a throwaway reference to a gnome in the Blade’s Edge mountains named O’Mally Zapnabber. He resides with the Cenarion Expedition there and seems to have his mind set on figuring out how druids work. One of his theories is that maybe they have batteries hidden under their robes.

A tauren rogue? Um…sorry, but I’m laughing just imagining a big, clunky tauren male trying to quietly sneak up behind a gnome to backstab it…

Replace in that image the “Tauren” by a “Devilsaur”, and the image becomes frightingly realistic! *shivers as he remembers Un-Goro*
