#139 – “Staggering Knowledge”

Areen really does seem to have a liking for the word “dire”. I also felt now was as good at time as any to give her a greater insight to her new traveling companions – for better or worse. That said, I’ve actually went and cut down the Elwynn chatter a little – in the hopes that we’ll actually be able to move along just a tad quicker.

The pose of Te in the fifth panel..oh those curves. :)
But overall the camera position of that whole panel is nice. It catches all four of them without the need of zooming out. :P
The story goes on nice and slowly and shows a lot of charakter development.
I like the frequency of the comic updates. Quick and Quality. Something you rarely see on online comics. Thumbs up.

    very nice page nhani.

i hadn’t noticed it until now, but looking back i should have, but i am glad to see Te isn’t holding herself nearly as self consciously as she used to. Very nice job.

So… Hani is now gonna punch Te?

Quote: “So…Hani is now gonna punch Te?”

Quote: “Right in the chin! BAM!”

On a more serious note, I’m glad this issue is being addressed, as it was sure to come up again sooner or later. Since the group never really ever settled their differences on the boat, and I rather doubt they’ll be settled on the roads of Elwynn Forest, I do look forward to seeing the stronger side of Te, and the more emotional, softer side of Hani (both of whom rarely show such sides).

      Keep it coming, Nhani! <3

Te has hold of one of the more important (and more neglected) doctrines of Christianity: that another person’s sins do not justify one’s own. I like that she has her hand on Hani’s shoulder as she makes her point. It is for Hani’s own good that she learn to see and acknowledge her own flaws, and Te is taking exactly the right tone, by pointing them out with charity, gentleness and affection.

In panel 3, Areen’s irises are *still* overlapping her eyelashes. You will probably have to watch for and crop them in her every close up until you design a new model for her, with eyeballs. And you’ve mixed tense in her panel 5 dialogue: it should read either “What ever possessed you…” or “What ever would possess you…”

Good catch – I kept tweaking that one line for length and sound and I think I mixed up two of the variants I had without noticing in the end. It’s been fixed.

As for the eyes, I simply haven’t considered it enough of a problem to mind or really even take much note of it – there’s multiple cases where Blizzard themselves have made the eyes such that the irises are actually larger than the textured eyes they’re supposed to fit in, so I’m not yet convinced it’s that much of an issue. Especially not when I’m still at a point that the majority of the night elven eyes in use have far greater problems in terms of deformities and unwanted stretching.

Good stuff as ever, always envious of the skill involved. Areen’s fantastic, I have a gnome who’s a paladin.. Unfortunately only in character (curse you Blizzard), but I can imagine her behaving very similarly. On a very late note, the Archdruid getting punched was a classic moment. I also like Te… But. That’s more of her being cutesey and pretty more than anything else.

Great stuff as ever, loving it.

    Hi Nhani,

Great page and just want to tell you that the last page for Beyond the tree’s cameo is up. Thanks for letting me use em Nhani which in turn made me discover new techniques on how to make a much better looking comic(e.g. facial expressions).

    Thanks again,
    Pyren

I’m glad you had fun with it. I find that a whole lot of improvements (for me, in the least) come about randomly when I suddenly get an idea on how I could do a certain thing better. It doesn’t always actually end up better, mind you, but it tends to be a learning process as to what methods work, what methods don’t and which paths to pursue.

Not every ‘issue’ will be noticed and not every problem needs to be fixed, but I find slowly striving for overall improvement – starting with the things you personally feel you have to or know how to fix – is a good way to go about things.

It also shows Hani is very relaxed and trusting with Rei. It also rather neatly echoes the touch Te’len gives Hani, on the shoulder. There’s a palpable bond between them and the other two seem to be reacting to the fact that Hani appears a little sullen, almost childlike: they are lending her emotional support with a difficult matter, that has found it’s way into the conversation. Each in their own way.

    the arc druid deserved it!

    • September 6, 2009 at 09:14

No he din’t,every faction leader every day is in difficult situation about thinking of his people, all faction leaders need respect and not a punch in the face.Things would be different with out Arch Druid.Arch Druid may was angry just from exhaustion that’s all.If Arch Druid deserved to be punched same with the rest of faction leaders.

      • September 6, 2009 at 16:17

Based on not just his behavior here but also in game, Arch Druid Staghelm is CONSISTENTLY arrogant and rude. He acts like he is (or should be) the new god of the night elves. I do not yet have a night elf druid high enough to deal much with him so I don’t know if he treats druids any differently but everyone’s comments echo this.

Also, the leader of the night elf faction is not Arch Druid Staghelm, but High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind. Check out the achievement “For the Horde!” Even though it would be lots more fun to kill him than her.

    First!

    what they said *points above*

    second…

I like the invetween talk with our newest crewmember, tis good that she learns from the others and their adventures, however as to her own… well im still looking forward to know more of our gnome paladin. As to what you say about cutting down the elwynn chatter, psh, i know that when you cross the bridge… lets see, then there is the gnoll area, then the crossover into westfall, then some road, then the cottage were you can get that chicken pet… OH! OH! OH! Tiny should SO get that as a mount :3 … AAaaaand then some more walking and done ^^

So depending on the next few panels, id assume if its only travel that they would arrive in say 7 panels? :P (if chicken is included and no detours besides ^^)

Current plans puts the first dialogue with Gryan Stoutmantle at.. *checks* .. #146. Current plans can change. I cut out two pages on the way that I didn’t really have a solid idea for anyhow, though I think I accidentally extended something else so I got one page back anyhow.

As for what’ll happen during those pages, well.. you’ll just have to see.

Annnnyways, im looking forward to whatever you have in store :) heck if i didnt i wouldn’t follow the series would i ;P

Keep it up ^^ Its Faaaaaaaaan-tastic

Amaze us again plz! and i’m with the rest, the Archdruid deserved it!!
Now about something else, i have been following Pyren’s comic Quest and suggested a cross-over in the deadmines to him, since both groups are going in the same direction, so i’m hoping u think about it also :) would be fun to watch since cross-overs are VERY rare in webcomics. not to mention the clashing personalitys of the 2 groups, i mean, Areen the paladin VS Aisha the Death Knight, can only get better!

Also check out the page he made with both comic casts to celebrate 50,000 views!
    here! http://www.drunkduck.com/QUEST/index.php?p=606039

    Enjoy!

Well, the thing is that although it may still be a few weeks before we enter the mines proper, the key events and how they’ll affect the characters are already long since in place – with much of what’ll happen after that built on those events. While the narrative tends to be rather flexible in places, there’s also a great deal of things that simply have to happen because other things later on depend on them.
