Sometimes it’s interesting to see what people expect – in this case, I don’t think anyone bar the cast were surprised at there being ghouls in the cavern – we’ve all seen them in the game. Of course.. then there are the things that are different..
I wanted this page to be short and pretty much played straight – it more or less sets a stage. We get to see our opponents which were conveniently hidden so they couldn’t be spotted from range, we get to see the reactions to them and can go straight to the action next page.

First!
That is what I call a shield bash!!
Tee scary face is just perfect!
Nice page here Nhani, keep up the good work. Loving the suspense :P
P.S Yay 1st comment :P
Oops Sorry Alexey, looks like u just beat me :P
awsome and nice play on words
ps: would this count as third or fourth comment?
Tiny clutching Hani’s ear for dear life – LOL!
I love Areen’s facial expression in that first panel!
Wow, now that’s pulling a Leonidas!
mmmmm…undead smiting…nothing quite like it. Nice page Nhani
This is my first post here and i think this comic is really cool.
on this page i like the expression and pose of rei most, how she holds herself on the hair…
sry, bad english, but awesome comic :)
greetings, cy-one
I like how you have Tiny grabbing Hani’s hair, it’s a nice touch.
Undead? Oh heck, I thought they were female dwarves.
I would love to see the threesome wander accidentally into Onxyia’s cave. One of my guildmates who had taken time off from the game for more than a year came back and decided to go solo Ony for quick cash. Ah…he got a bit of a suprise when he tried to walk up to her and swipe her on the snout.
lol thats a pretty epic fail, walking into Onyxia like that,
Anyway what i wanted to say that this comics pwns :D keep up the good work!
This is your Divine Storm.
….
Use it well.
YAY! Undead looking scary for once! Areen better pull off some awesome paladin moves XD
Super update as always and the thing that realy made me chuckle is the face of the jumping Ghoul in the middle.
With its mouth wide open like that, my mind translates the expression into: “GASP! a Paladin!”
It looked more like “Surprise party!” to me.
Well, to me it looks like that ghoul behind that pillar used the ghoul in the middle as a projectile.
“GHOULISH BARRAGE!”
Absolutely epic! Love the whole page. Te’len’s reaction is remarkably accurate for my understanding of her character: panic and paralysis.
Ghouls are silly and cute in a shambling, smelly way^_^
Best part I say is the last frame, middle Ghoul. The word BANZAI comes to mind.
Seconded.
That ghoul wants all of her lol
Thirded…if that is a word.
4 Ghouls, an undead dwarf and a Paladin….
is it a bad thing when my mind instantly decides to hit HotR, HW and conc?!
I could almost see that last ghoul saying “peekaboo!”
Gosh I wouldn’t like to fight undead with a tiny hanging off my ear! Now we find out if the druid can do anything except squeak in fright. We know she has a little dagger hidden somewhere.
great expressions, how do you keep up the quality this good. Just stunning!
Don’t let it slip away, keep it up!
I expect Areen to unleash some extreeme holyness on those ghouls and turn them into corpse dust! Gnome Paladin FTW!
Wonderful! :D
Te’len’s role tends to be rescuing Hani when civilisation gets too much for her… the comic is much more rounded than the game and talents other than bashing people’s heads in or burning them with unholy ire are noticable and important. Or Hani would probably be leading the rebellion in Stormwind’s prisions…
Nothing shakes a gnome paladin – the gnomes are used to exploding inventions and the paladins are trained to be unshakable – Areen’s stance in the last pane is just so utterly like one would expect her to be. Three undead twice her size about to jump on her, two more in the background;she draws her weapons and stands her ground…
:)
“the comic is much more rounded than the game ”
One word. Blizzard.
I bet Areen tops all the undead before Hani even gets close, then just walks off saying “Yeah…that was nothing” *epic smile*
Hehe…EPIC SHIELD BASH! So she has some Warrior spirit in her after all. ;)
This page is pretty epic, overall. The reactions are brilliant – both Hani and Areen reaching for their swords (and now that sword-in-shield thing makes a lot of sense…and adds to the epicness) and Te’len simply having that “OSH*T!” face on her..followed by Tiny holding on to Hani’s hair. Probably not the best choice, but it’s either that or flying over to Te’len hoping she’ll get caught in mid-flight. Riiiight…that won’t happen.
I’d love to see that last pane enlarged though as a wallpaper. That is so filled with win it’s too awesome to not have. I’ve been in similar situations in the game with Gordrake where I’m against multiple enemies like that, stand my ground alone and still come out on top. The thing that lets me down is that I’m a Tauren – big, muscular, something you’d expect to take a beating and then smash your skull in half. This is a Gnome we’re talking about, which makes the moment even more spectacular.
This really shows the difference in my perspective compared to that of the reader base – when people first saw the sword attached to the shield, the first reaction seemed to be that it was a blunder, and when finding out it wasn’t being mostly “Well.. that’s a tad strange, isn’t it?”
Comparably, the reason I came up with the idea of having her pull the shield and leave the sword sheathed to it was because of the visual idea I had for this page – Bashing the zombie aside, drawing her sword out in a horizontal arc and then facing down a swarm of ghouls with sheer determination.
And there’s a whole lot of small little things that I put in every so often that really don’t seem like much at the time but I just might have plans for later.
Haha…and I got suckered right into it. I remember being the one who talked about that shield/sword combo at length the most, and this page just goes to show even I get it wrong sometimes. I do take some joy in being right most of the time, yes, but this seems to be one of the few things I chirped up about and just…well, made myself look a bit silly now, having seen this page.
I still vote for the last pane to be a wallpaper. It’s so full of epic win it just has to be.
Id just love the fact that the shieldbash was so epic, and even more that she has a fist on her sheild XD
*FALCONPALA-PUNCH!*
… and yea, aginst undead im quite certian that our dear gnome is the expert of the group, i wonder is she has holy wrath yet… :3
I never think i found out ingame why it is that those dwarfs even did turn undead… or why the defias seems rather careless about the crew of skeletons living next to them.
… as for the jumping ghouls, now i dont know why… but it just made me think about power-rangers for some reason XD … prob becauss they would allways jump into battle with small explosions behind them.. i could just see those ghouls in ranger-suits with things going off in the background XD… ahh the memories..
Good page :P
Lol!!! great page! can see those ghouls screaming FOOD!! or Diner! now we get to see how wicked Areen is! and hope Te’len does’t faint or something, that would just be SO…(can’t find the word for it…)
and Moltrazahn, i agree with u on the ghouls hehe, somehow it just fits hehe.
As for me … I expect that Te’len will advance the plot greatly in this sequence …
because while Hani and Areen have their eyes forward, Te’len will be taken from behind by Defias.
Any moment now a human paladin will jump in with a huge skulled axe screaming “ARCANITE REAPER, HOOOO!” ^^
I think that would give the same effect as the following, Ragefury, but maybe this one is even more extreme. Immagine that all of the sudden Lord Tirion Fordring shows up, singes those ghouls in Holy Fire, bows and than take of again. It will probably cause some reactions like… What was that good for and why didn’t he stay to help them with the rest of their journey… not very likely situation for them to get unexpected help. On the other hand… ust surprise us Nhani =P
As much as I sometimes like (and employ) non sequitur (apparently the official term) for the sake of humor, I tend to prefer to keep it confined to dialogue. Besides, to reflect my personal experience with human male paladins, if one were to jump in he’d more likely swing his massive ego than an axe and run away again at first sign of danger — either that, or he’d randomly and spontaneously combust. I’m entirely honest when I say that in vanilla World of Warcraft, paladins (human male ones in particular) were to me what hunters (night elven male ones in particular) were to most other people.
But in an effort of not being a vengeful git, it probably won’t happen ;)
you just hurt a male night elf hunters feelings =(
well, fortunetly, not all hunters is as dumb as the classic huntards, and UNfortunetly, they still lurks among us. not more than 2 weeks ago, a hunter needed on a spellpower neck and a intelect stave in zul’ferak when goin through with my alt. night elf male too…
should have rolled a tauren… =D but when my two friends that made me play at the time were nelf warrior and rogue, i just did the same :D
Did someone talk about rolling a Tauren…? ;)
I think you’re avoiding the humor in what I just said – it’s just that when a quite hillarious image springs to mind while reading this comic, I just write it all down in my comments – if I were to be serious then I would’ve said so ;)
To be honest, I think I’d prefer the image with a personal touch. Arcanite Reaper, Ho in itself is a tad repetitive and overused.
I mean, how about a skeleton in black robes, a gravely voice and an axe scythe going “Arcanite Reaper Man, Ho.”, or a dwarf with a red outfit and a white beard leaping in, going “Arcanite Reaper, Ho Ho Ho!”, or even a forsaken rocker charging in going “Arcanite Ripper, YEAH!“ and rocking loose, disco lights coming from the sky and huge bass speakers randomly and blasting the entire cavern with hardcore electric guitar madness.
