I like the faces of the pirates in the 4th pane ” Oh well,….he is be grumpy again”. Good idea of mention Gilnid ( the goblin at the Goblin Foundry) of crafting the guns ( oh they are cannons yes ;-). I discovered this comic a few months ago and love it, checking a few times every day or re-reading certain parts. Keep up the good work Nhani!!! You make me and alot ofother people smile with this comic.
poor lil captain… never had a chance
… Smooth as silk. The only question is, will he have time to scream?
The way his big mouth goes, it wouldn’t matter if it was a tauren sneaking up on him – he would hear nowt anyway … well, unless the tauren was clumsy, of course. ^^
Well, he’s going down.
I’ve got a good two dozen webcomics in my link list, but I have never before gloated such a long time over the art as I have on this page. Very, very impressive. The warm light inside the cabin! The shadows so clear, yet soft-edged like they should be. The dark so… dark, without just being blackness. It’s fantastic!
Also, is that the cabin where Van Cleef and his pesky shadowguards would usually be? I can’t recall any other part of the shi… bo… eh, vessel that’d look like that, but then, I haven’t poked around on it in a very long time. Not to mention that I can’t exactly scale it’s sides like Hani.
The ship really only has one top cabin, as we saw from a distance, earlier; so yes, pretty much.
As for the lighting – 3d gives you a whole lot of help; effects like coloured light you essentially get “for free” as you just give light a type, a colour, an intensity and a falloff and you’re set. Shadows are a bit more bothersome as I effectively have two options for them – either the very accurate, but knife-edge sharp, Ray-Traced Shadows, or the much softer, but inaccurate Shadow Map shadows which can’t utilize masks. The latter is sometimes a problem as some things like hair edges or teeth or whatnot will create a perfectly square shadow.
I’m still hoping to find a shadow type that works like the former but with the soft edges of the latter, but me knowing all of those are render-specific, meaning I’d have to set up the environment in advance around which renderer I intend to use and hope it’ll work without issue.
Pages like this make me wonder if Hani really is ‘just’ a warrior. Then I remember that all night elves are inherently sneaky.
Back in Beta, nelfs had a +5 Secret Santa racial, but it was too imbal to leave in retail.
I also am loving the lighting of all these strips.
If you mean in terms of the in-game class, then no.. Hani really isn’t “just” a Warrior; the term is apt if meant in its more generic meaning as she tends to excel in certain forms of specialized warfare.
Hani Foonmall is a former Sentinel, I’ve always considered stealth, mobility and momentum her key areas of focus; she can’t exactly dig her heels in and bunker down the way Areen can.
…and then we learn that the goblin captain actually is a master of Kung Fu and Hani has a heckova fight on her hands.
In either case, looking forward to the next one. Itching to find out where the really evil one is hiding out.
Hani will think he is the leader just because he is giving orders and that’s why she is holding a sword on her hand to take his head.
The expression on the last panel is beyond epic. Hani looks like a death god or something xD
I wouldn’t ask for a wallpaper of that though, too much low polygon models around her :(
I actually did larger renders of panels 6 and 8, but with 8 in particular, I’m told the low resolution textures are.. ah.. “painful”. So I haven’t put them up for public consumption.
That little “Eh?” reminds me of sneaking up on Defias Dockmaster in Elwood Forest….
Somehow, the goblin does remind me to Beavis ;)
Keep up the good work!!
All you need now is the Jaws theme music and this would be perfect. And the last panel there would be on par with the “Grinning Hani” wallpaper in terms of “****, she’s scary.” She’s even got the grin while she’s about to Ambush him!
Definitely not a Night Elf you want to meet down a dark alley. Not only can she Shadowmeld but she can scratch your back before you even know she’s there.
I never really understood who’s in charge, is it the gobbo here or Vancleef?
Speaking of Vancleef…are you going to implement his daughter in this Nhani?
To be honest, I didn’t even know of his daughter until you mentioned her, and even so, there really doesn’t seem to be much about her save for her being his daughter and that she’s taking over after him in Cataclysm.. and that’s about it.
Seeing how Story Arc One had its last major narrative overhaul back in late 2008 – a time when I’m pretty sure there wasn’t even the slightest hint of her even existing – no, I haven’t planned for her.
I just got this image in my head. Van Cleef is also a master rogue, having been trained in the ways of SI:7. Could it be possible that while Hani is stalking the vessel, that Van Cleef and his shadowguards could be stalking her?
Just saying what comes to mind.
Anyone sneaking up to a Night Elf?
We’re way too awesome for this.
Never say never. In fact, he might sneak up on the rest of the group left behind and capture them while Hani take care of Captain Greenskin (the most silly goblin name I’ve heard tbh).
That’s more possible, even though Te’len is still there.
always i used to read smaller posts that also clear their motive, and that is also happening with this article which I am reading
now.
