#42 – “Taking a Hike”

So we say goodbye to Raene for now. Unfortunately most characters we meet are still likely to be nonposeable. I’m going to try to see about making some blank poseable models to use for extras whenever possible, but that may take some time. Especially since I need to learn new body structures for it (I’ve only ever converted night elven female models so far).

Also, I’d like to mention that Beyond the Tree passed 250’000 views awhile back – without me noticing! Counter stands at 268’523 now. I’ve been churning out a few random wallpapers on Thoughts for Food (see sidebar) from time to time so appart from those, I have nothing wallpapery to comemorate the event.

That said..

I recently adapted an old story about Nhani Moonfall and Reiki Moonfall – the characters that Hani and Tiny are complete readaptations / caricatures of – into Beyond the Tree-like graphic novel format. It’s short, just 15 pages (plus front page and final words), it’s also nothing like the lighthearted approach that Beyond the Tree has. Still, I’d like to think it pushes the boundaries for my storytelling abilities by eshewing some limitations that Beyond the Tree has to live under. I’m rather proud of the result with visuals and expressions and everything, so I thought I’d point it out specifically!

Do check it out if you’re interested ;)

Now I really want too know whats gonna happen, like always. btw Sunrise was really good very nice models but I hate ends that leave an opening, then I just want to know what happens. Anyway keep it up.

Update more! WE DEMAND MOAR! also, Sunrise…wow, amazing. but the fight-scene was a bit too long, imo. Can we have more of the backstory, pl0x? was really entertaining.

And I actually even cut the fight scene down from the initial plan, heh.

Sunrise was built from a short story snippet that could add context between actions – comic format can’t really do that, hence the limits. It basically also culminated at some one or two years of character development, so the full backstory is hardly easy to squeaze in!

In short, Reiki Moonfall was one of several daughters that priestess Nhani Moonfall ended up more or less formally adopted as her own. Reiki always skirted the edge however and after loosing her beloved (that’d be the Kaie), she just plain stumbled. Sunrise eventually followed that trail, and it’s not really until recently (over a year since) that Nhani Moonfall has started believing in her own ability to provide guidance again.

It doesn’t really have much of an end because one of the characters still wander around, and the events of Sunrise still have a profound effect on her.

And my current sunday/thursday schedule is hard enough to keep up at times when being a victim of Sloth. >.<

Sloth gets misinterpreted a lot. It is not laziness per se; rather, it is a sort of spiritual fatigue, a sort of ennui or a reluctance to seek out spiritual goods in one’s life.

      From Catholic Encyclopedia:

“A man apprehends the practice of virtue to be beset with difficulties and chafes under the restraints imposed by the service of God. The narrow way stretches wearily before him and his soul grows sluggish and torpid at the thought of the painful life journey. The idea of right living inspires not joy but disgust, because of its laboriousness. This is the notion commonly obtaining, and in this sense sloth is not a specific vice according to the teaching of St. Thomas, but rather a circumstance of all vices. Ordinarily it will not have the malice of mortal sin unless, of course, we conceive it to be so utter that because of it one is willing to bid defiance to some serious obligation. St. Thomas completes his definition of sloth by saying that it is torpor in the presence of spiritual good which is Divine good. In other words, a man is then formally distressed at the prospect of what he must do for God to bring about or keep intact his friendship with God. In this sense sloth is directly opposed to charity. It is then a mortal sin unless the act be lacking in entire advertence or full consent of the will. The trouble attached to maintenance of the inhabiting of God by charity arouses tedium in such a person. He violates, therefore, expressly the first and the greatest of the commandments: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength.” (Mark 12:30).”

cool story, really. a shame its hard to squeeze into comic format, I know I’d love to read it. Oh well, we all love you for making comics twice a week…FOR FREE! Hell, I shouldnt even be asking “gief moar free entertainment, pl0x” when I know I couldnt keep that schedule myself, if I had a comic. You’re doing a great job, Nhani. Kudos
