#95 – “Not Quite a Rescue”

So actual judgement gets postponed in favour of something more political, for the very moment. With the duo having ended up in a situation that’s goes somewhat beyond just them, it’s an opportunity to dwelve into just how it spills over. While the narrative might center around them, the world they inhabit doesn’t; this, I hope, has the opportunity to suggest just how they might affect the world around them.

Of course, characterizing significant lore vehicles such as Tyrande Whisperwind (and to a much lesser extent, Fandral Staghelm) isn’t something done lightly, especially when there isn’t nearly enough time to see but a fraction of them. Tyrande is ultimately a rather important character in Beyond the Tree, and I make it little secret that she’s one of my favourite characters in the Warcraft setting. We see one side of her now, we’ll see another side in #96 and then she’ll go back to being just felt rather than seen.

Here’s some food for thought, though: is she actually telling the truth about why she showed up?

hmm, interesting to see how this goes on from here.

sidenote: i’d like to see Tiny being separated from Hani for, let’s say, a week. i wonder if she’d be as bold with words then as she is now?

  2. March 22, 2009 at 01:52

a week might be a bit much,..
but it would give a chance for her to let us see how well she can fend for her own,..

I deffinitely dont hope Hani gets a get-out-of-jail-free card for the sake of plot.. Would rather not have had that (awesome!) suckerpunch happen at all… Even tho its prolly the best scene ever. (Knocking out Staghelm in the middle of one of his lines is a dream come true to almost every nelf player :p)
This comic has been so lovely faithful to “realism” so far.. I’d really hate to see it break now :<

i agree Ershiin, i hope Tyrande’s got a good reason if she lets Hani slide out from this. or she could just throw her ass to the jail :D ‘tho i doubt that will happen. she actually might have saved Hanis life. true, Hani might have chopped her way trought Bearsomething and the trees, but after ol’ Stag got up, the would have been hell to pay.

Two random points: 1) It’s lovely to see Tyrande’s face without a permanent scowl. 2) She has great, great arms.

To answer your question, no I don’t believe Tyrande told the exact perfect truth on how she heard of a disturbance. The time lapse is far to short, even at a dead run from the upper level of the temple of the moon to the the middle of the tree where Bearwalker hangs for the high priestess and her companions to have made it when they did. Pretty much seems to me that at least one or more of the Sentinels on guard duty at the portal spotted Hani and set off to inform Tyrande she was back in town accompanying a young druid. Tyrande, being rather astute, figured that a clash would occur when and if Steghelm should happen to meet Hani. I am not entirely certain of what relationship exists between Hani and Tyrande but I think it obvious that Tyrande would assume the worse if Steghelm started one of his customary rants against her in Hani’s presence and obviously was somewhat correct in her assumptions.

Now this begs the question of exactly what type of relationship exists between the two…

I actually spent some time specifically removing the innate frown of her facial texture when I first made her poseable – while she needs to be able to frown, I did wanted her able to smile, too.

It would be nice to see blizzard re-think Tyrande’s model in WoW most of the other faction leaders have already been updated (Besides Magni but to be honest he looks good anyway =D)

I’ve been considering what ways I might rework her myself since I need to revise her model eventually to get the skirt to work better. I haven’t quite decided how extensive it should be however, and what might be the most important things to keep in mind for it.

I like how fit NE females are. ‘Not gonna’ lie, Tyrande has some really great arms.

For all the hype you hear about BE women, they’re just a bit too scrawny imo.

if you look at Warcraft 3 all the night elfs were either archers or saber riders. about fit arms have you EVER tried pulling a 80pounds bow? if not i can tell you if its your job you’re gonna have some VERY fit back and arm muscles :)

for the nightsabers well if you chop around with their fancy sentinel shuriken that doesnt seem light you probably get some arm muscles too :)

now compare with the belfs who all seem to be mages or warlocks. that is a brain job not a body job thats why there is no fit thing really :) not saying that nelfs aint smart with this btw

idd, would be nice to see how the current ingame politics survive with this happening to staggy, and by the look in Tyrande’s face, i don’t think we are far away from a shouting spree by her at Hani ;)

and Angus, i’m from Limburg, the city of Weert to be precise :) hence the callsign.

  19. March 23, 2009 at 19:22

    @weertangel
lol,.. that would indeed explain it,..
you`re a little more then 160 Km south of me,..
(not that you can get far mor south then limburg :P )
I`m from a little town close to enschede (overijsel/twente)

    @Elveswarrior:

You forget that the most sucessful of the blood/high elf military are/were its Farstrider Rangers. They’re at least as skilled with their bows as their nightdwelling cousins from across the sea, A.K.A night elves.

high elfs was idd skilled with bows no doubt there just look at sylvanas :) im thinking around now in WoW. blood elfs can idd be hunters but look at their society its all spealstealers from Warcraf 3 FT and Mage/warlocks :) not talking players but NPC’s in this case

I also think you need to consider history of the bloodelven kin.

In the second war and the tides of Darkness (warcraft 2 + exp) the highelven kin were an agile race of archer-like troops. And tough there were no real unit, it was mentioned that the elfs also had sorceress in their ranks. SO we can conduct that before the events of Arthas and the 3 gates of the Highelven homeland, they were much like the Nightelven troops, thus ranged.

However, from the moment of their Exile, they have been hooked on magic, both as a source of “food” and defence/offence, So its understandable how they convert from the path of the warrior/archer and go towards that which keeps them alive. I still love how the BE are the only race who cannot chose the warrior path (unless you count paladins/dks, both also magic users). However even with the end of the great third war, nightelven sociaty havent really changed much, aside from them allowing the oppesite gender into different ranks (druids, hunters etc). Thus we can conclude that the Bloodelfs, who seem to relie on magic for pretty much everything demanding (They got magic brooms ffs! :D) even the mundane tasks. You can even see them use slaves for weaveing cloth. So they’ve gone lazy, thus growing thinner.

So… yea :P, The dear madame “Banshee” Queen however was killed with bow in hand, and used it during her undead life, so her keeping her even during the suffering of her “people” if fair, thus her arms would still hold some muscle compared to say a former Highelf archer, who now needs to use magic as her path to survival, who now uses magic to lift the spoon from her plate (pun intended ^^).

And ofcause, there are still Bloodelves who are hunters, but the major part are Sorceress/Mages/Warlocks. Yet on the major picture, the case is clear.

I also like how BE is the only race that can’t roll warrior. I know many people whine about it on the forums, but thematically it makes sense. You don’t see a BE run headlong into combat unless he has a mana bar or magic runes to utilize. The whole rage mechanic would probably be too ‘brutish’ for them.

That, and now that they’re part of the Horde they can let the bigger races handle that sort of thing, and with much more ‘natural finesse’. ^_^

My brother recommended I might like this website.

He used to be totally right. This put up actually made
my day. You can not imagine just how much time I
had spent for this info! Thanks!

Aw, this was an exceptionally good post. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a superb article… but
what can I say… I put things off a lot and don’t manage to get anything done.
