#106 – “On the Horizon”

This page is almost entirely an ad lib – I had no real script for it beyond “We see land. There is much rejoicing.”, so everything else was pretty much just grown out of that. More yet, the first version of it didn’t have the two panes at the bottom – those were added on suggestion following pre-vis input being that it seemed incomplete and like it missed something.

I wanted a page that really signify the arrival – a wide shot of the destination. Unfortunately, even at highest draw distance, it meant I ended up with a foggy outline on the horizon, rather than detailed towers and whatnot. Still, that aptly hides details that we’re better off without, and I imagine it might have more impact like this.

Stormwind… a city filled with rats (both the vermin and the others). This city is nothing it looks like, just like a rotten apple, looks nice on the outside and rotten on the inside. The ladies will sure have a surprise in this city.
Anyway, I think it looks cool that you can’t really see all the towers, for now it just looks like a mystery city, you really don’t know what will happen in there. Tiny seems to present it like she has been there before though, maybe this another mystery we might see something about one day… or maybe not.

One thing though, in the third pannel the veils aren’t seen in the background, while in the 5th one there are although it’s the same angle or am I seeing things?

I think that’s why I like Stormwind the most. Other than its traditional fantasy appeal, it definitely portrays the various reflections of human nature. Teldrasil, by comparison, feels like an unrealistic utopia sometimes. I’m not saying it doesn’t have its dark places, of course. But it’s interesting to see the differences between a race that’s been so use to immortality and lack of want and the human race, which has been so riddled with strife and conflict.

It may just be the difference between a race with long life and race with a very brief one.

Oh, I forgat something, is there a chance the Vote icon will get bigger? when you said it’s tiny I didn’t expect it to be that small and blending with the other writing

It’s a different angle – the sails are pretty much a static entity on the model. Since there’s little frame of reference however, it might look like they’ve moved (they’re sails, so it’s fine!) but it’s the camera that’s swiveled around almost 45 degrees.

And yes, I can make a larger version that’s actually image-y. I’ll give it some thinking so it doesn’t look too out of place stylistically!

This page made me go all “gleee” with the prospect of all that opportunity, ripe as a plum to pluck!

Hani’s not looking amused to be close to docking ;p

I’m curious on how they get welcomed by the people, cos in this story it seems like Night Elves are rarely seen in any other place then their own homes

U ppl forget that the night elves got a moonwell in the park in stormwind, so i guess that ppl are used eneugh to them witout staring at them openmouthed. but i am curious if Tyrande has send word ahead? couse she will have send them there for a reason other then having them out of the way. Much mystery to be seen!

    Let it come! ;)

I’ve been reading all the past pages with glee and exitement, and I really should comment more often to show how much I enjoy what you share with us. I have been looking forward to this page for aaaages though. Eastern Kingdoms.. Stormwind! On that note I love the background of a misty Stormwind in the distance. It truly feels.. vast this way. The major ‘metropolitan’ of the east if you will. I can’t wait to see how things will go for them here, culture clashes and all that!

Stormwind City. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious….espcially around Goldshire.
Random player: you hot, cyborz nau!
Hani: these are not the newbs you are looking for.

I wonder how they will handle the General chat spam… Or really since i dont think they are in a guild, the guild spam chat! O.o…

ANYWAYS! whos up for haveing Hani giveing Varian a smack in the face? Anyone? Come on! i cant be the only who wants the warmonger with a fist-like tatoo on his face :P

No i think whichever may occour could be very interesting, since Stormwind is FULL of humans, and well, sofar the trio only met two (if memory servers) of that fine spicies.. Apart from the ones they killed ofcause >.>, But yea i could think of afew ways maby Tiny would react towards certian individuals, Say! how about if she found that pesky little kid who stole the doll, and made him give it back? Seriously he annoys me :P

Anywho! good page, brings lots of Anticipation!

Motrazahn, i already like you :D Give Varian the same treatment as the archdruid. then Hani would be the most bad-ass girl out there ;p seriously, a warmonger as leader is bad :P

and yes, the little kid with the doll should give it back.. or we light him on fire :o

as a NE i personally left the elf lands at around level 16 – when i had to the aquatic form quest (has Te’len done this?) – and didnt really go back to kalimdor until Mara became important

First, I wanted to say in game, the Moonwell was always there, but it is said it’s not an enchanted moonwell, like the normal night elf ones, it’s just a well the humans built to show the night elves how much they love them… ahem… well, anyway, I’d love this comic forever if Hani would hit Varian!
