#108 – “Do You Mind”

So we move things up on our brief little sidetrack – not so much plot exposition as more character, especially since the present dymanic has changed ever so slightly. Of course, the best – in my opinion anyway – has yet to come; we’ll get to those tidbits for the next two updates.

One thing that I spent alot of time thinking about was actually the angle and portrayal of the shot in the fifth pane – while I wanted to put enough attention into what actually happens, I decided I also needed to show Te’len’s reaction to it, in a sense to reaffirm that yes, it’s perfectly fine to wince there; in fact, that’s kindof the reaction I’m hoping to create with it.

I personally loved it! The look you gave the guy in the 3rd to last panel was classic. In my opinion, the last frame could have done with including slightly more of the guard, or slightly wider, but other than that, nothing to complain about XD

Always looking forward to reading your pages. Very nice looking as always.

Love the way the human is talking with the slight accent btw. :)

Yowza. Hehe, and just like that you can ruin someone’s career in those kind of settings. Then again maybe he can resort to begging. He’s got the language for it anyhoo! >.>

I so love how busy it is in here, and realistically.. Most people are not paying attention. Either because it’s too crowded to notice, don’t want to risk aggrevating the armed Kaldorei and potentially drunk sailor and others just don’t care.
And the light. It feels so wonderfully bright and sunny, like a great summer or spring day. It really gives a big difference in the feeling of the environment compared to the night and twilight lands of northern Kalimdor. I can’t help but wonder how the trio might respond to that change on top of the cultural changes.

Ahh and the Stormwind guards approuch.. I hope it’s a observant nice one, and not one that only saw the last bit, or just likes to use the uniform to push folks around.

    *waits impatiently.*

just in Stormwind and Hani is already in trouble,..
    o well,..
i love the page as always.

*shakes head at Hani* She has a lot to learn ,-) I sense her path slowly being cobbled.

Btw, You’re at number 37 on the vote site when I just checked *cheers*

Eesh, I admit I winced. Crippling a guy is pretty heavy >.> but I guess it might not be that bad, since they’d have magical healing available and stuff; especially if an individual’s livelyhood was at stake.

Rei’s line was priceless, and very in-character xD

I still can’t help but think the human was wildly over-optimistic/drunk/stupid for trying to lay hands on a Night Elf, even a gentle one like Te.

the “cripple” was just two broken fingers that might heal on their own and his expression was awsome and so was te’len’s when she told him to let go

Well, as Rain implies, breaking those two fingers on a person’s main hand, in an historic medieval setting, could ruin the skilled use of that hand for their life. Of course, Azeroth is not exactly that, which is sort of my point. I thought it was good storytelling: I think it was intended to be read as an excessive use of force :)

    -do you mind?
    -uhm no.
    – good *crack*
well cant say hani wasn’t polite there.
    and here the guards/cavalry come.
note to self and an few other SW guards isen´t an military force they are more like an police, civil defense and disaster officers they will not draw there sword for like anything.

breaking someones fingers isn’t too polite you know. and yes, SW guards are for law enforcement, meaning they will draw their swords if the need arises. and since there are no Tyrandes around to bail her out, I hope that Hani won’t turn to her usual ”problem + violence = problem solved” method.

Love it! altrough Hani’s dark mood is beginning to get unsettling, since she so easly turns to violence. also loved Tiny’s comment on “waht u want!?” she sure knows how to set a mood lol!

@Angus, ofc i play wow! who does’t who’s reading this??

  12. May 8, 2009 at 11:15

    @ Weertangel
Lol,.. i think most people that read this comic play WOW.
But you should never just asume, you could be the exception to the rule.
I was just wondering what server you were on,..

It’s Corporal Naima and Private Kipsy in the 1st and the 5th panel! *smirks*

Oh, well.. this is my first comment on this website. Enough lurkin’ around… I like the stile of your comics a long time very much AN’ I like the fakt Hani looks exactly like my huntress, who is, indeed, just the same type of character like her (with a saber much wiser then her in exchange for not having something like Tiny).

Keep up the great work !

I don’t know about you guys, but wouldn’t it be awesome if Tiny were actually real? Having her throw in a few sarcastic comments in here and there would just lighten the mood to anything! I love Tiny! TINY FTW…*ahem* ‘scuse me…

I’m here only transiently, but having read the archives I must say that you have done a superlative job with the graphic redesign of the main characters. Please, keep up the phenomenal work.

Piastol do you know where the comic whit Corporal Naima and Private Kipsy is written? i men where the web page is so i can read them or what that comic name is?

and i wounder if thats an other coincident or whit purpose from Nhani is it Nhani?
as whit Tiny and Hani almost reminds to mush about Jack and Dexter.

Corporal Naima (and Private Kipsy) was a two-page one-off I did over half a year ago – the blog post linked to dates them to around August last year, though they might even be earlier than that.

I was considering making a spinoff series of it, but it ultimately never got anywhere. Atleast not so far. If I find the time and the ideas for it, I might revive it in some way or another.

  20. May 10, 2009 at 12:46

    @ Nhani

it was a nice spin off,..
who knows if you have some more time left over it will make a comeback,..

but i prefer the Beyond the tree series

I just LOVE the “Cunnng foes, these walrusses”-line in the second comic *smirks* But, like Angus, I too prefer Hanis Adventures

But I’d find it rather cool if Hani meets Naima (and Kipsy, of course) in a “Just-for-the-fun” episode… *winks*

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the page
    layout of your website? Its very well written;
I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more
in the way of content so people could connect with it better.

Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures.

Maybe you could space it out better?
