#134 – “All Going South”

So I know people caught the scarecrow remark, but with its far-fetched nature I felt it was only fair to expand upon it; especially with how it’s a somewhat absurd discussion to have. Plus, it helpfully branched into the latter half of the discussion that had a few different takes before I settled on this one. Hani’s lines were actually the most difficult one because they should, by default, be sparse. She won’t waste large amount of times explaining, she’ll just speak her mind and that’s that.

Just a question really fast; are we going to see Te shapeshift at all? Or is she one of those few druids who prefer two legs to four?

I actually tend to cite Malfurion Stormrage as my primary inspiration for how to approach Te’len in the terms of what she would/could do and how she can hold her own as a druid.

So no, you’re not likely to ever see her do much in the way of shapeshifting. I simply can’t see it being her thing.

Blizz recently said in their Druid Q&A that they want to make it so druids have more incentive to be in their normal form as well, not just staying in one alternative form all the time. One solution they suggested was to make tree form into a temporary buff. They hope to work with ideas along those lines.

So maybe Te is just a trail-blazer? The first of Blizz’s new druid vision! I sure as hell can’t see her as one of those goofy owl bears…

goldshire is basically just a strip club…and street fighting arena on my server

course it looks like Nhani has enlarged it a bit. I dont recognize that building straight ahhead of the group, between the Lions Pride and the Blacksmith. But i also dont frequent the place much anymore, lol.

I am interested in seeing what Nhani does with the place though.

AH,Noobshire in sight and Hani her dark self again, let’s see if the drunkards there survive the coming of the devious 4 some!!

Nice page as always btw,but really hope Te’len does’t stay so clueless for long, couse altrough it was cute at first, now its getting a little annoying..

Ah Goldshire is a complete dump on my realm full of egotistical idiots who reackon to have done this that and the other till you tell them “I don’t see that in your achivements on the armoury or on here either” and then they get all arsey and even more upset when you cane them in a dual.

Alas I do somtimes drop in the dump from time to time just to laugh at the sheer idiocy I am on an RP realm but you do not go to Goldshire to RP at all period.

Light help anyone who happens to get in the way of those four the verbal as well as physical pain would not bare thinking about I’d be inclined to leave Goldshire right now.

    Excellent work as always.

Hmm, not quite the Goldshire I used to come across… Is was always filled with every low lvl twink and bragging raider there was available. Did make it possible though to defeat a full tier armed warlock from equal level while only wearing a rare quality gear… Usually that meant ‘bye bye’ for the interest they had for the warlock in question…

Very good page, please go on!

On my server, Goldshire has a definite place:

    A) target of opportunity for either a lone level 79 or 80 Horde paladin or Death Knight who’s otherwise really bored, or a group of about 4 or 5 level 60-70 Horde whatevers who are sizing up the competition prior to a raid on Stormwind City.

    B) a place where the newest graduates of Death Knight Boot Camp can go and make complete jerks of themselves by challenging EVERYONE that passes by to a duel.

Still…it’s a pretty happening place on All Hallows…

Despite her “blonde moments”, I still find Te’len to be quite the fetching, young elf lady. I am so glad you decided to give her a bigger role in your story, and always look forward to your updates here.

Te’len has actually become one of my favourite characters – I can definitely relate to her far better than I can the duo; which is part the point, really.

I don’t consider her clueless as such myself, really – she and Hani knows equally little about the human lands, though Te’len is a little more likely to ask. I think it’s more really that so far the journey keeps putting her in places and situations she’s not all that familiar and/or experienced with.

Nhani, once when I was playing my priest on an RP server a brooding NE rogue addressed me in the Goldshire inn. He explained to me that he was the illegitimate son of Illidan and Tyrande. I’m tempted to ask you to include a character like this and give Hani the license to respond the way I wished I could. ;p

Ironically, in my particular case I had just spoken to another NE rogue about an hour in advance who was making the exact same claim for his character. My conversation with the second Illidan/Tyrande child went something like this:

Me: “Oh wow! They must have been really busy.”
NE: “Silence! Don’t speak of them with such disgrace!”
Me: “Well I’m just sayin’, I met your brother not an hour ago and he ‘splained the tawdry affair to me. Are you guys moving into town?”
    Ne: “I don’t have a brother!”
Me: “Well hold on. He didn’t mention you to me either, but that doesn’t mean you should deny him. With such a troubled and fractured family you two NEED each other to help mend your mutual melodramatic past.”
    Ne: “HE LIED TO YOU!!”
Me: *scrolls up chat log* “His name was _____. Perhaps you two should fight and make up? I’m sure you could find room amongst some of the other fist fights out front. I’ll send him a letter and let him know you’re coming.”

I only succeeded in annoying both characters. It was the most I could do. :)

Ahaha, good show. Tiny would approve ;) Strangest thing I’ve ever experienced there was someone who exclaim how old priestess Nhani Moonfall “couldn’t be older than the world itself” after she remarked she was born just a little over ten thousand years ago (she was something like 54 years old when the Sundering happened). I just boggled at the outburst.

Hani going lose on would-be children of the High Priestess isn’t something that’d happen in the main plot (mainly because I’m trying to show a goldshire as it could be, were it ever purged from player fail), though if there’s demand (and I get an idea I find funny enough) I might consider an intermission/outtake version.

Goldshire is a really good reason to go Horde.

You really only have to deal with that sort of fall out between levels 10-20.

This is a great comic you know, but sometimes it seems you just dwelve a bit to deep into analyzing it, rather than letting the story unfold. I didn’t notice those cutpurses flight being implied rather than there. Although I can understand that the making of a 3D model comic takes time, and so it’s easy to focus upon the details a bit more, you should try and relax a bit in critisising and over-analyzing your work.
It’s great stuff, and like a painting you have to stare a long time at the picture for the paint to become visible.
And that fight scene two pages ago was awesome :)

Having read this comic for some time now, a curiosity has grown inside me… I wonder how Hani, Tiny and Te’len would react against the big guys like Nefarian, Kil’Jaeden or even someone like Grand Crusader Dathrohan. I could think of something though…

    Nefarian attacking a human settlement

Nefarian: Flee elves, my time has come! Do not intervene in my plans and I might
    just spare you!
Te’len: Excuse me, oh great dragon, but why are you doing these horrible things. I
heard that dragons were wise, but this is just cruel and heartless.
Nefarian: Foolish elf, don’t you understand? I’m not a weakling like those green
dragons from the Emerald Dream. I do not tolerate mortals, unless they are
under my control! I am a lord of the great Black dragonflight and all who
resist our rulership will perish. Now move on or I will incinerate you…
Tiny: Hey!!! Don’t you talk to her with a tone like that!
Nefarian: What’s this? A talking doll? Or is it a gnome, in that case gnomes have
changed quite a bit in a relatively short period of time…
Paladin Lightspark: That, sir, is definetly not a gnome. I am though, and I must say that you
    are very rude, mister dragon.
Tiny: And I am NOT a doll either! I’m also an elf!!!
Nefarian: Take it easy shorty, do you have any idea who you are talking to?
Tiny: Well, taking a quick look at you, you are just an overgrown ugly black
wyrm. But you can’t help it, probably your mother was just ugly and…
    Nefarian: …
Hey! Now you went too far little elf! I shall roast you and your fellow
travelers and continue with my plans afterwards. I bet you will taste a
    lot better roasted.
Tiny: Now we’re talking about roasted… You wyrms seem to be able to do pretty
well at that, would you mind to roast this meat for us, we’re quite hungry.
Nefarian: What! Where do you hold me for, some kind of kitchen utensil? I will take
great pleasure in killing you. These insults have taken long enough!
    Prepare to die!
Te’len: Tee, look what you have done! With a little bit of tact…
Tiny: I can’t help it that the big ugly wyrm is so lightly insulted.
Hani: Tee, really, just be quiet…
Tiny: What? you are telling me to be quiet?!
Nefarian: *Sigh* Hello, I am about to kill you, isn’t anybody terrified or at least
Tiny: Hold it wyrmscale, almost done here.
Nefarian: What?… Now… *sigh* How did I get involved in this…
… Doesn’t matter! that it will be an unfair fight, what it would have
been anyway. I will just kill you all, I have warned enough!
Tiny: Will you just stop the I thing? If you keep going on like that, you’re ego
will grow so big that it doesn’t fit in your chompy scaled body anymore.
Hani: Oke, lets just end it here…

The rest of it you can probably immagine…

This is definetly not comic fit, since Nefarian would be a very strange accidental encounter.

    Keep up the good work!

What with intermittent checking I totally forgot that the group is going to westfall! /facepalm I was just imagining how amazing it would be if they ran into the noob gnome from Cru’s comic. Not that the gnome would fit into the style of speaking (hah!) but even a cameo would be hilarious.

First time poster btw. Excellent comic! and after having taken a 3d digital arts course I’m appreciating it all the more.

@ Udun-ghadgar, really, that storyboard(or wahtever u wanna call it) rocks, i laughed quite hard at it!!! love it! if u could make a scene like that about our foursome meeting Van Cleef, plz! enlight us!! =)

And Nhani, mounts would’t be a bad idea, would make things go a little faster :)

    • August 15, 2009 at 18:38

Not to mention the incredibly annoying rattle that gnomish mechanostriders make.

Oh, I guess you could sort of kitbash a paladin mount to the size of a gnome warlock’s dreadsteed for Areen (I will not squee at Areen) to go with Hani and Te’len’s nightsabers (if Hani could in any way wheedle a nightsaber out of the Powers that Be in Darnassus).

But I agree with Weertangel. Your story and character interactions would suffer quite a
      bit if you added mounts.

Iasion: Bwaaa ha ha ha haa!! I love it!

Though I don’t currently RP in WoW I’m a roleplayer from way, way, way back (see http://arkanabar.tripod.com/keep.html which I posted in the previous century), and I have always found characters who are straight out of a setting’s lore (or worse, out of some vile blasphemous shipping of the lore) to be mightily annoying.

Of course, this sort of celebrity/notable relationship inflation is endemic to all sorts of storytelling, and it’s always worse when it’s fancfic. But take romance novels. F’rinstance, England’s nobility is ranked thusly: King, Duke, Count, Baron, Lord/Knight. (Viscount and Baronet were added later.) England has very few dukes, and a lot of them are automatically also in the Royal Family. And yet it seems like every Regency romance novelist has to have at least one novel where the romantic hero is a duke.

      • 28 Germ
        August 23, 2009 at 03:07

The reason most dukes are automatically in the royal family is because; when the king has multiple sons and at least two grow into adults the younger one will become a duke. Like Hamlet’s uncle. Normally though, princes will kill each other.

Lovely that an other Dutchy appreciates my little story thingy. I might consider a VanCleef one, but tha fact is, he is less powerfull. Probably his line: ‘Lapdogs, all of you!’ would be used at least once, and in that case I also think Tiny could go him by talking his head off on his shoulders… but no time right now, sorry fella.

There was once a visit to Blackrock depths planned – it’s long been axed from continuity simply because I couldn’t figure out how to make it fit into continuity; it’s old enough that the plans I have for it mention characters that have also long since been axed from the comic.

Nonetheless, I had a particular exchange in mind for the very end there, going something like:

Emperor Dagran Thaurissan: (from the game)”Thank you for clearing out those foolish senators. Now prepare to meet your doom at the hands of Ragnaros’ most powerful servant.”
Tiny: “What? Servant? Hani, he’s just the butler!”
Hani: *shrugs* “Not worth our time, then.”
Tiny: “And here I thought he was someone important! Seesh!
        E.D.T: *seethes*
