#162 – “Pity the Ghoul”

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Actually, making page titles can sometimes be one of the most difficult parts of finishing a page – it needs to be a title I can accept, preferably one that has to do with what’s happening in some way or another. If it’s a pun or reference to something else.. all the better.

So this page – I find one of the things with writing Beyond the Tree is that every so often the cast need to stop and narrate elements that most of the audience will take for granted. Since they don’t get all the meta information we do, some of that information has to come through another means. Some of it might seem obvious, but let’s face it – a ghoul doesn’t really look that much like a dwarf.

isn’t it called the explore’s “league”, and not “guild” ?? :)

anyway, at the 5’th picture, something looks weird with her arms near the edge of the comic…

    great job tho :)

it’s because they’re crossed and folded. Doing that with a 3D modeler is very tricky, because these programs rarely, if ever, mind having two objects in the same space.

This, pretty much. In more in-depth, it’s basically that while solid objects are solid in real life.. 3D graphics are essentially just empty shells, so there’s nothing inside to actually absorb impact or any such.

There’s quite a few cases where this’ll cause trouble, especially with how night elven anatomy (not to mention gnomish anatomy) isn’t at all like that of humans, so there are some poses that should work, but aren’t really.

True. You do have to consider that NE have proportionally larger hands and feet than a human. It’s might always look strange to some degree.

Explorer’s League, Miner’s Guild.. hurr.. figures I’d get something mixed up. Oh well! I blame that one batch of their cards had a print error. You never know with those gnomish printing machines.

This is not a complaint, just an observation. But there seems to be something wrong with Areen’s eyes in frame 3. she appears to be a bit bug-eyed. the same thing happens in frame 6, and her face seems a bit puffy – which makes her look a bit like a constipated gerbil, lol.

She has a pretty odd expression in both those panes, with one eye frowning and the other not. It made her look rather perplexed, so I stuck with it.

I know her eyes can become a tad unusual from some angles too since they’re essentially flat objects floating above the rest of the model (this is how Blizzard does eyes as well). That said, I don’t actually notice it myself in this page; all that seems odd with Areen’s face to me is the expression she makes.

lol, i missed the miners card quest my first time at the deadmines, a year later when a guildie needed a run, i went to help, and asked, why the hell are we going this way?

    but nice page Nhani

I hope you can do what i never could figure out… and that is to tell how in the world them dwarfs became undead in the first place… and why the defias dont seem to bother them at all. Nevertheless, ive noticed that im starting to see past all the small 3d-model issues like eyes, shadows falling wrong etc.. after a while im just starting to read each page with renewed vigor and excitement, damm you Nhani! youve got me addicted! grr :P… anywho! love the dramatic “cliffhanger”

I’m sure our group will have their own theory on the matter before long! As for whether they’re actually right or not.. well.. we’ll see about that in due time, won’t we?

Lol,I hope they won’t confused wich way is the right to find the entrance instance to Deadmines,if they will then we’ll have to wait for looooooooooooooooooooooong

Heh, when I read this page, All I could think of was CSI: Azeroth.

CSÏ:Azeroth??? nice idea for some machima movie hehe.
As for the undead thingy, i think they have always been in the deadmines even before the Defias moved in. something to do with the Lost tome of Divinity that was recovered from it in the first war.

And as always, Great comic!! but i do hope we see Te’len more in action in the future.

Aw, this was a really nice post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to produce a
superb article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and never manage
    to get nearly anything done.
