#165 – “You Did Say Fire”

It’s always a tad odd of an experience to go back to the basic, unrigged and unedited World of Warcraft models for a pair of extras and try to make them expressive without either bones or morphs to help. There’s still quite a bit that can be done with them, it’s just all done by hand without any direct assistance, so rotations and expressions all have to be done on feel, more or less.

the whole edging around the corner to shoot em….sure works out better if you dont announce it.

Not that it would have helped him much…he was dead man talking…

What also works better is if you stay back from the edge you are edging around; Hani has demonstrated one reason why — it makes you much less vulnerable to ambush. She would have done better to hold onto her knife, as well as the gun, though.

Another reason is that you are less likely to be hit by debris from bullets hitting the cover, which covers both ways, after all.

You’re pretty wrong. There’ve been several females who got whooped in the past. Chapter Two was one time that happened, rescuing Te’len meant Hani went off on a killing spree against several of the bad guys, one being a female warlock (whose imp decided that being sent back to the nether was “not in his contract”). Probably some other examples too, but I’m sure Hani is just getting ready to take care of her next targets as we speak.

And any rear attack, I’m sure Areen would gladly bring them to justice.

The last living (thus non-undead, non-mechanical) thing Hani killed was a female defias cutpurse extra back in #132; prior to that, it was a group of cultists, starting with their female leader back in #83.

This topic has come up before and to reiterate what I said then, there was a time when I actually specifically tried to force choreography (at the cost of up to one or two extra hours of work for some pages) of Hani killing women just to keep people from making this sort of conclusion; I officially gave up on trying months ago when I realized people weren’t actually noticing, making all the added effort and frustration a humongous waste.

As an example, for this particular page I needed a defias taskmaster extra to get knifed in the throat and topple over backwards. The human male model has an animation of laying on their back, the human female one does not.

HEADSHOT! Haha! Never bring a gun to a sword fight! TOLD YA! XDD

Have to say, though, that if Chekov is right, that leaves the group between a rock and a hard place…he’s expecting reinforcements and any movement out of cover means having to go Matrix-style and dodge bullets. Whatever they do now, they need to do it fast.

That’s unless some Scourge start going omnom on Chekov from behind, then it’s a case of taking the initiative and bashing some dead skulls before he gets chomped too hard.

Funny how I managed to suggest how the Scourge are the group’s best hope though. Sounds ironic.

But then, I just thought of another solution! Areen going Leroy, shield up, sends one bullet flying off her shield then leaps up and Shield Bash in the girl’s face, leaving Hani to pin Chekov down at the tip of her sword! WOOT!

…have I guessed right at all yet?

Ahh that’s not fair, mooks are supposed to charge blindly to their death with no regard to plans or reinforcements, those defias bandits are doing it wrong.

Page reveiw: As allways with me, i love it! it puts faces on the bad guys instead of just the mindless grunts of wow that charge blinding into a blizzard. I know this aint a new thing in BoT but i still do enjoy seeing the faces behind the people so to speak. What really caught me was the eyes of the Defias in this one, allright its fair to say there aint much else to notice about them! but its still an interesting detail i like ^^

As for solveing the entire corner thing… pfft, your all walking in circles! Areen’s just gunna use bubble! easy problem solved ;P

… another fun thing would be if a ghoul were to jump the defias ^^ but thats just my imagination playing spoofs.

also, panel 5… LOVE his expression, just pure win :P

My bad, still love the comic though ^^
Wonder how they’ll get out of this one.

this one is easy take an look at what firearm they are using.
    reload time is dangerous long.
for example the M41 Machine gun takes maybe 10 second to reload and that was an long time during ww2 and those guns take way longer then that.
i see if i can find more info.

There’s a reason why people who carried flintlock pistols into battle tended to carry a bunch of them. They were the epitome of “fire and forget,” in that you fire, and forget about using it except as a club until the next battle.

And wheel lock pistols were even WORSE to reload. And when it comes to match locks, no, never mind. Nobody has enough on the ball to keep two pieces of match cord alight during the course of a battle …. or to swap their one piece of burning match from gun to gun.

Judging from what I can see, they are using muzzle-loaders. These take approximately 20 seconds to reload, assuming they have ready-to-use cartridges. If they don’t, it would take even longer (I knew an interest in military history would come in useful sometime, lol).

I can see Tiny plotting something – I don’t know what, I don’t know why … but I do know it will be nasty! xD

Am I the only one seeing Areen using her shield to ‘waste’ the woman’s loaded bullet?

Those guns take some time to reload, and that ‘some’ time is all that Hani/Areen need.

I would interject and say those single shot rifles if working on real world ie ours will take at least 3 minutes at the most to reload even if your an experinced user of such old weapons. And sometimes the powder can be damp or the firing mechnism won’t work. I think Hani and Areen have plenty of time to deal with them in a three minute window. And it’s probably going to be a very bloody three minute window too! Well judging by what happend to the poor sap Hani’s just taken out she seems to want to cause some major pain to em for that potshot!

As I said before, they take approximately 20 seconds to load. 30 seconds at most. Still leaves plenty of time to do something nasty to them though.

Agreed, Arc was never in the forces as he claims and having a brother who is confirms it doesn’t take nearly as long.
