#177 – “Occupational Hazard”

No they didn’t throw him. It’s more an elaborate form of Ogre Tipping. Ahem.

Distances are a bit troublesome when each “set” is kept seperate yet still within the same proximity. In this case we’ll just have to accept the stretch of charging in from behind the corner or somesuch. As for why the focus on Areen? Because Areen is Awesome. That is all.

Just loved this page…it made my day that’s for sure. Just love the way Areen is, like a true paladin

Loving the page, as per usual. I think Ogre Tipping might become a fad =P

Ogre tipping will become a internet fad i swear to all that is holy!

Loved the action with Areen here, as a paladin she is indeed very well trained in the art of battle. Good page like usual dudette, keep it up.

Wow, scary scary gnome. I guess there are limits to her mercy after all!

6th panel – the “WTF?” expression…oh, yes! And the last panel, you can almost here her snickering! LOVE IT!

And yes, Areen is awesome. ‘Nuff said!

Coming from an orc, that’s something. But then I can’t talk, being a tauren and all…and agreeing with above statement…

But one line that rings in my head for that last pane: “Bet you didn’t see that one coming, did you?” Nothing like a surprise ogre drop to catch everyone’s attention.

Areen’s sword must employ some kind of gnomish non-stick coating or something, it’s looking pretty clean after running someone through.

On the subject of Areen, I’m always impressed with the amount of “acting” you manage to get out of her model. Her facial proportions make for a good amount of expressiveness, but you also do a lot with her poses, like in frame three, in spite of her diminutive body structure. Well done.

By the way, are we going to see a new voter incentive pic anytime soon?

One day maybe I’ll be bothered with making alternate bloodied textures for the various sharp weapons about; either that or the Light just repulses all evil, and their blood is tainted by their foul robbing and murderous acts!

Yes, clearly this is the case.

There’s a problem with how Areen’s arms are attached to her shoulders really, but most of the time I try to avoid it being visible.

Also voter pictures, gah. Uhm.. I’ll try to figure one out?

Blood effects on weapons are easy to get from certain weapon enchants you find in game, but as I can recall you usually get this red glow-ish effect in addition to that blood effect. Still, it’s a good option.

Unfortunately it isn’t an option at all, really; weapon enchants are animated particle and spell effects that don’t translate over into static models. I only get the static model topology, no particle emitters, no particles, nothing.

The only way to get a proper blood effect on a sword would be to edit the texture appropriately, in a way that looks atleast somewhat convincing.

    except that wonderful work.

It was busy dying. To work it needs to be not there because Areen can’t get to see it until pane 5 or 6; I know it’s just a tad of a stretch, but my excuse was that they were around the corner and I’m sticking with it.

I was expecting more of the fight of Hani against the Ogre,oh well lol,as faster they will kill them then the faster they will face Vancleef.

  12. February 19, 2010 at 16:12

She’s looking quite evil in panel two.

    Great ending…falling ogres. hehe

  13. February 19, 2010 at 19:37

i never understood ogres being used as shock troops i mean…they dont have any armor, you can easily wack them!
In Tides of Darkness they explained their ogres used armor, but the recent ones dont.

Ogres as shock troops still sounds good in my ears. Fighting an Ogre, imo, resembles fighting a bear. Put an armoured man with a sword in front of it and most likely, the sword will only anger it. It’s difficult to wound it badly with all the muscle (plus Ogres get an extra layer of fat to dampen bludgeoning blows as well). It’s a kind of natural armour :) Plus, they will probably pack such a punch that one or two blows will be enough to knock you off your feet, making you prey to the mobs that follow, if you’re not bleeding out of your ears already.

But that conclusion comes from the ponderings “What would I do when I encounter such an Ogre”, the answer of which is: “Run like hell”. It’s true though, that an extra metal coating will make it even worse!

Hamstring, Ogre stumbles back a few feet, then falls. >.>

Wow, this may be the best page in the comic so far in making Lightspark look awesome in terms of lighting & facial expressions. =D

Is it just me, or is the ogre missing a face in the last panel?
Silly ogres, faces are for elves.

Right here is the right web site for everyone who
would like to find out about this topic. You realize so much its almost tough to argue
with you (not that I actually will need to…HaHa).

You definitely put a new spin on a subject that has been discussed for
    decades. Great stuff, just wonderful!
