#187 – “Bravely, bold sir Goblin..”

We’ll ambush them for a change! Hah! Well, back on track and with a hinted reveal that.. probably would’ve been ominous if not for the tiny matter that everyone likely already know what’s coming. Of course, there’s the details and execution, but they don’t always really have the same surprise potential.

Goblin faces are odd – they’re fairly expressive.. provided the expression you want is a wide grin. Doing anything else, on the other hand, is a little more problematic. Also, because I wanted to use it as a title but it felt too long and cumbersome: “Why do you chase me, scary Night elf, why?!”

Ouch that must have hurt. Great page as always!

The 6th panel is a bit weird however, the goblin is in almost exactly the same pose as in the 5th.

And a kick to the face from Hani. That fellow’s not getting up for a while.

Also, Monty Python reference! *claps excitedly*

Bravely bold sir Goblin, rode forth from the deadmines.
He was not afraid to die, oh brave sir Goblin
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways. No, no, no brave sir Goblin
He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
Or to be killed by nature’s grasp, and his be tripped by a gnome
Or to have his body split, and his body turned into a ghoul
No, no, no brave sir Goblin

Right, I know the song doesn’t end there, but I can’t think of anything more, too tired :P
Anyways, after seeing I’m not the only one to recognize the monty python reference I just had to write this XD

The goblin’s facial expression in pane 4 is purely priceless. “OMG, it’s teh Hani! RUN AWAY!” ;P

If we’re going to discuss facial expressions then we better mention Hani’s in the the last panel. There’s no doubt, the thought going through her mind must be “Oh shit/ WTF is that?!!!” looking at the Shredder =P Cant wait for next update

Yeah, haven’t seen that expression on Hani, at least not in combat. Guess Azeroth can show an old NE some new stuff.

i dont know if its just me, but i can’t really see what happens there with the last goblin,

he is running for help, and then suddenly he gets crushed between something, is it the door, and how did he end there?

Wow…now this is a good page. You got the team twisting normality and ambushing the goblins instead of being ambushed and one gets left…only for him to get killed by the shredder. I do like that last expression from Hani, though. That is definitely a “Oh sh–!” face if I ever saw once – and considering her earlier encounter with mechanical constructs, I’m not surprised. Wouldn’t be too surprised if she actually feels that moment of fear, because…let’s face it, that last one only had claws and scraped her arm – this thing’s got buzzsaws that cut off tree limbs!

At least this one is known to have a weakness – the next few pages should be very interesting.

My heart leaped off joy when i saw Areen shield bash that goblin’s head in….
King Leonidas would’ve been proud.

The real irony is that guy was the most vocal opponent to, “stupid, unnecessary, gnomish hazard/warning lights” being installed on the shredders.

I’m psyched for when we’ll get to see Areen’s Avenger Shield. Come oooooon, Smee!

Now the last panel, THERE’S a panel begging for the new nelf eyes. XD

Hope they’ll have atleast a little problem fighting the shredder. Hani needs some badass scars. Best from some big, sharp, metal, spinning object.

Why does Hani have vampire teeth in the last frame:P?

That’s one of the unique features Nhani added to her Hani model some time ago. It does look good, but personally I think those “vampire teeth” look a little too bright compared to the rest of her teeth. Maybe they’re suppose to look that way, maybe not. I’ve never really dared to ask. =S

Fangs are actually a night elven feature in general – the in-game male models even have them specifically modelled and quite visible, making them the first Alliance player model that actually had modelled (rather than textured) teeth, the second being both genders of Draenei. I’ve had this particular kind of teeth on my own tweaked night elven models ever since I first figured out how to concoct a proper mouth cavity for them, though Hani’s fangs are slightly more exaggerated than the average to give a stronger impression of her as a predator.

They’re actually not brighter than the rest of the teeth, they’re simply longer, and when her mouth is only slightly open the sets of both the upper and lower jaw will visually overlap and make them seem like a single tooth rather than two separate ones. Arguably, they should possibly be slightly more spread out to the sides, but that’s hindsight for you.

As an aside, it’s interesting to see what associations people make with fangs. Personally, I always figured the night elven ones more catlike than anything, seeing their physiques, natures and everything.

hehe very funny :)
but what is your email? i have some idea for the story…

I have long known those are supposed to be fangs, but so help me, every time I see ’em I always first wonder who the heck busted out Hani’s front two teeth. Ah well, even so, that is no bad thing either as it implies she has been in a fight or two along the way. But then I go “oh wait, those are Hani’s fangs.”
