#277 – “Inspirational Power Chords”

This was an idea that came to me with the most recent model updates – since I took the opportunity to tweak the character design to add greater detail, it felt like it’d be appropriate to actually take the time at some point to show these additions actually being obtained, rather than just sneak or retcon them in like I otherwise tend towards. At the same time, I didn’t want to dedicate too much time to the matter since the main purpose is simply just to sync the visual design with the narrative. This was especially the case for Areen where I felt her gear could only really come from the Order of the Silver Hand, so I both wanted to show her recieving the hammer, but at the same time I didn’t want to end up spending multiple pages trying to write an appropriate ceremony, particularely since the time frame is supposed to imply it’s all done in short order.

I actually went and bothered one of the members of the Silver Hand guild on Earthen Ring for suggestions on what to do with the ceremony, and he too arrived at the same conclusion I did – that the best option was simply to show a few glimpses and then let people work out the details for themselves.

So this is really the whole reason why I gave the two day time frame – I wanted there to be enough time for them to prepare and have things happen, but not so long that they’d have time for an adventure or whatnot to distract them from their course.

This is wonderful. I have seen Knighting ceremonies in the SCA. They are very special events, but do not take a GREAT deal of time if there is reason to move quickly. I can see Areen quietly standing her vigil within the Cathedral the night before taking her vows and receiving her mace… it was just enough to bring all that together for my mind’s eye. :)

The last panel is lovely, too. Hani is ready, focused, with a purpose held close to her heart and that is something we have not seen in her before now. The last panel just shows all the possibilties that await and perhaps her own personal appeal to Elune to help smooth her path…

    VERY well done… :)

What’s that Ser Hateful-Gladiator’s-PvP-Set is holding in the first and third shots? It looks like something, but I can’t quite make out what it is.

This is a really lovely page: it looks fantastic and gives us a set of character moments that propel the story forward. Everyone looks great, and I am so happy for Areen ^_^

If I could get a fullscreen version of the last shot I’d use it as a background. It looks beautiful.

Right, I had to fiddle with perspective a bit and do some re-rendering to match everything up well because as it were, the render and the backdrop really didn’t match up well for any image wider than about a thousand pixels; nevermind that the whole bloom post effect turns out quite a bit differently at larger resolutions simply due to how it work, buuuuut

4:3 aspect and 16:10 aspect. The latter is the original resolution due to pasted in backdrops being limited by the resolution I run World of WarCraft at; not everyone uses or prefers widescreen however, so I fudged a 4:3 version too, just in case.

Superb! I love it how y’give us those scenes and in the fashion you’ve done it! The knighting ceremony in particular! Reminds me of when my pally got knighted, and then her squires. <3

Off subject entirely but I have to say, with regards to this
Looks like I’m going to need to re-up and get me some T4 gear for my Druid.

Is that a high elf on the front row in the first panel? Not alot of people take into account that there are two elven species in the Alliance.
