#243 – “Dear Edwin”

What, you never saw that second letter? .. ahem..

Beyond the Tree isn’t (and never was) World of Warcraft verbatim – the goal was always to try to keep it plausible, not to quote it word for word. While I do spend a whole lot of thought into keeping to the overall lore and setting, I do try to make some space among minor events and ambiguity to take my own spin on things. Why couldn’t Hogger just be a local legend spun out of control, why couldn’t the Furlbrows’ wagon never have broken down, etcetera.

As a fun aside, the page title as well as the first iteration of the quoted letter was put together way before the group even left Kalimdor – though I’ve revised the letter itself about once or twice since.

I like the unremarked on touch of Hani messing with her shoulder again and getting reminded to not touch it.

INTRIGUE!!!! Who’s Athrikus Narassin? Wasn’t he the old Night Elf they were supposed to be looking for?

Athrikus is a servant of Azshara, and the objective of the Tower of Althalaxx(?) chain in Darkshore.

Former servant, actually – in more recent years he’s been attempting to throw his lot in with the Shadow Council, thus choosing a much different master compared to his old Queen.

The Warcraft-remixed element is one of the things I love about your comic. I loved this development, partly because it brings together one of my favourite storylines when I first began playing (Tower of Althalaxx) with one of the things my little elf found a bit harder to understand (pirate ship in cave under Westfall, complete with ghouls) and thus cnnect. But mostly because it does seem plausible and, well, cool. Looking forward to seeing where this (eventually) leads :)

Back to Darkshore! That’s a plot I hadn’t immagined to happen… but surely it is quite brilliant. Fun fact about this is that by this you have (it be conscious, it be unconscious) connected 2 nearly equal level levelingzones!… Plus, it just seems to fit perfectly with the raised dwarfs.

No further comments but good ones, so most surely, keep it up!

There ought to be a third letter:

“Dear Edwin, its been a while since you wrote, so your ol’ mother was thinking if it was your pinkie-toe teasing you again, you allways did get so distracted
when you had a booboo on your pinkie-toe. How is my snugglepussums? Yes you are! and my granddaughter, your not still teaching her poker are you? Im telling you darling, its a bad call-
as me and your da’ found out when we taught your sword-fighting and how to rally large demoralized organisations… anywho loves you muchly!

    kisses, your ma'”
