#256 – “Plot Ressurection”

I know the crumbled letter effect is pretty poor.. I thought I’d be really clever and just tesselate it, then add a noise to that and finally stretch the result and.. it could’ve looked better. It made more sense in my head than it did in practice, apparently. Anyway.

Exposition is a strange thing to work with; more than just a pure info dump, there’s often several forces at play that adjusts what is being said, and how. First of all there’s setting up the context for where the plot is heading in the near future.. then it’s setting up things that might not be relevant until much later, but still needs to be set up in advance.. and then there’s just plain expressing the world and how it works. Finally on top of all that, there’s simply trying to stay true to character throughout it all.

Sometimes, keeping within the page size limit is a royal pain in the backside.

I expected I’d end up with lines I’d have to mangle far more, so I actually spent some time pestering various people and prowling a prowling three pages of story to try to figure out the accent.. and ended up with lines reasonably unmolested anyway, heh.

        It works perfect!

        And…what story?

Well there’s this crazy person who apparently posted several snippets of character story over a now three page thread on some forum for some guild somewhere. The Mysterious P suggested its use for reference, though I’ll have you know trying to absorb an accent is quite a bit harder than absorbing the narrative that contains it!

I wanted to include one, but I couldn’t find a place to fit it in where it wouldn’t require at least two extra beats to get a payoff. She’ll speak up a little later.

Ah! Are we going to have a “Nobody expects the Paladins of Stormwind!” moment? “Sister Lightspark, fetch the comfy chair!” I watch far too much Monty Python I’m afraid…… I just hope they don’t run into Stitches….. Or perhaps I do. I’d love to see Hani butcher him. I really hated that thing….

I’m already queuing up some more Epic Fight Music for http://www.wowhead.com/npc=412 :D

God, a year to get through Deadmines; I don’t want to think how long it would take to get through Kara. :( Although, Our Heroes vs Oz would be pretty damn snazzy…

Is this the part where they make Areen the first ever gnome Spectre? :D

Admit it, you just want to see Paladins making air quotes while dismissing claims in the sequel.

These “necromancers” you speak of are clearly just a myth!

        Alternatly:
Areen, I can’t believe you’re working for The Sentinals! You’ve changed.

        Alt Alternately:
I’m Hani Foonmall, and this is my favorite Cathedral in Stormwind.

If you keep running out of space, why not make the comic a bit wider ;)

    Nice page as always anyway!

I can’t make it wider due to the theme I use; technically I could make it taller, but I’m wary that something would be lost in the change. Limits can be a good thing – it forces you to be creative and decide which parts are the most essential.

Slokka Wainwright’s “As ordered” reply was originally nicked from the Rogue Squadron series, actually. *cough*

Will there be just Narassin in Duskwood? Or will we be seeing the memorable characters from its storylines (Morbent Fel, Mor’ladim, Abercrombie, Stalvan Mistmantle to name just a few baddies)?

Ooo, Duskwood. Sweet! Also, I thought I should point out that there’s a slight typo in the page name. I believe it should be “resurrection”, rather than “ressurection”. Just thought I’d let you know!
